About the Position
Dev Afrique is recruiting a Full-Stack Product Engineer to join our Product Development team and build innovative products that address Africa’s developmental challenges in areas like health, public policy, geospatial technology, and sustainable agriculture. This role is perfect for someone passionate about African development and eager to innovate at the intersection of technology, industry, and societal impact.
A successful candidate will independently lead products from concept to launch, navigating ambiguity and tight deadlines with ease. You’ll collaborate seamlessly with diverse internal and external stakeholders, leveraging strong communication skills to multitask across our focus areas—such as developing a health tech app one day and a geospatial dashboard the next.
While this work will be variable, some of the responsibilities for this position may include:
- Build and maintain full-stack web applications using modern frameworks , ensuring clean, secure, and scalable code that meets high-quality standards.
- Incorporate latest technologies including AI to enhance product functionality, such as personalization, automation, or predictive analytics, tailored to African market needs.
- Work cross-functionally with stakeholders to define requirements, prototype solutions, and iterate based on user feedback and performance metrics ensuring timely delivery of high-impact, user-focused solutions.
- Maintain exceptional code quality through rigorous testing (e.g., unit, integration), thorough code reviews, and adherence to industry best practices.
- Contribute to architectural and design decisions, prioritizing user experience, scalability, and maintainability for long-term product success.
- Actively participate in refining Dev Afrique’s development workflows, proposing innovative tools or methodologies to enhance efficiency and collaboration.
- Communicate effectively and periodically with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., clients, partners, community leaders) to align product solutions with identified problem areas.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship fostering a culture of learning and excellence within the Product Development team.
- Conduct research and analysis to ensure products address the unique needs of African markets, incorporating insights from local contexts to drive societal impact.
- Commit to ongoing personal and team-wide development through employee-led initiatives that move the organisation forward.
Required Skills
- 3–5+ years building full-stack web applications with React, TypeScript, Node.js, and Python, delivering scalable products with measurable impact.
- Hands-on experience integrating cutting-edge AI technologies (e.g., LLMs, LangChain, or modern APIs) to build features like personalization or analytics.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional delivery teams, ensuring client objectives are met in fast-paced environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, managing high-level relationships in diverse, collaborative teams.
- Strong analytical skills to solve complex challenges with practical, mission-aligned solutions.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and multitasking across health, public policy, or geospatial tech domains.
- Passion for Sub-Saharan African development, with lived experience or deep contextual understanding.
- Commitment to clean, maintainable code through rigorous testing and a track record of polished products.
Useful Skills
- Proficiency in French or Portugese is an advantage.
- Start-up compatibility, hands-on mentality, integrity and dependability.
- Familiarity with the concept of geospatial technology for last mile interventions in health or related sectors.
Please note that this role is hybrid as you would be required to come into the office at least once weekly. Strong preference for a candidate living in Abuja but Lagos is an option.
