Dev-Afrique, in collaboration with DevGlobal, supported the GIST team of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to deliver a support request to provide geospatial support to a set of grantees, VillageReach and the Solina Centre for International Development and Research (SCIDaR). The grantees’ work is focused on targeting telehealth and telemedicine interventions to unreached and underserved communities in Lagos State. Our work was to provide geospatial support for identifying these communities by triangulating tabular and spatial data from various governmental and public data sources. These data were further dichotomized into low, medium, and high categorizations to create an index of communities and human capital advantage using educational, residential, and employment levels. Further categorization was conducted using the health and telecommunication service index to measure the telehealth service readiness of the underserved communities. All these data were overlayed using QGIS, and areas with low socio-economic advantage and poor health service systems were identified and mapped out. The maps and data produced would be incorporated into a survey plan for an upcoming telehealth study.
