About:
Wole Ademola is a recipient of the Alan Turing 2022 UK Award for his research on improving settlement classification and population estimation using AI models.
He graduated from the University of Lagos, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. Furthered with an MSc from the University of Southampton in Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing and was awarded a Dean award for exceptional performance.
Wole Ademola has worked using his geospatial expertise to support decision-making across various sectors. Notably, while working with the Flowminder Foundation, he led geospatial analyses to support several African countries in leveraging insights to inform policies through the Georeferenced Infrastructure and Demographic Data for Development (GRID3) project, which contributed to the global fight against COVID-19 as well as other government interventions among many others.
In addition, he facilitated the inauguration of the Nigerian National Steering Committee of the Georeferenced Infrastructure and Demographic Data for Development (GRID3) by His Excellency the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, in December 2019.
His previous experiences also include areas such as urban planning, environmental impact assessment, GIS for health systems and geospatial data collection.
